Abstract
Highway maintenance is becoming more important in our country due to poor soil subgrade. clay soilThe cost for repair and maintenance is also higher and uneconomical. Stabilizing the soil subgrade and improving its strength before construction helps to minimize the chance for failure. Using waste materials such as rice husk ash, egg shell powder and quarry dust for stabilization is an economical method. The aim of this study is to compare the strength of clay soil containing 5%, 10% &15% of rice husk ash with 30% of quarry dust and 20% of egg shell powder. The optimum moisture content decreased with increase in dry density at 5% of rice husk ash with 20% eggshell powder and 10% of rice husk ash with 30% of quarry dust. The California bearing ratio test, and triaxial test were conducted for all the above proportions and the maximum values were obtained for the same. The tests results were plotted in the graphs. The maximum CBR values were attained at 10% of rice husk ash with 30% quarry dust and 5% of rice husk ash with 20% of egg shell powder. From the comparative results obtained it is concluded that the optimum value of dry density and strength were obtained with 5 %RHA and 20% ESP.
